The 2016 Summer WACANE (Washington Association of Collegiate Agriculture and Natural Resource Educators) meeting far exceeded our expectations, on many fronts. We want to take a quick moment to thank each of you who took the time out of your schedule to make the trip to South Seattle College for the meeting. More institutions were represented at the meeting this year than any in the recent past – this included representatives from Big Bend Community College, Lake Washington Institute of Technology, South Seattle College, Green River Community College, Walla Walla Community College, and Spokane Community College.
The meeting consisted of activity reports from each institution, a discussion about articulation agreements, an offer for faculty to work on pesticide re-certification modules, social media marketing do’s and don’ts, lunch, a discussion on industry connections and participation, and some info on how to make internships work for your programs.
While the Ag Center feels that meeting face-to-face once a year is a great way to stay connected, we’re more interested in the outcomes and after-effects of these meetings. We’re already seeing collaborations that are a direct result of the WACANE meeting, like WWCC and GRCC collaborating to provide options to natural resource students.
We’re very much looking forward to the opportunity to work with several colleges on additional articulation agreements in the near future. With staffing changes at WSU, we recognize that the process may change, and are fully prepared to assist the navigation of that process.
Thank you to South Seattle College for hosting this year’s WACANE meeting. We look forward to increased participation and collaboration in the future.
