Position Overview:

The applicator is responsible for the safe and legal application of plant protection and fertilizer products to a wide range of crops and sites. The applicator calculates product and carrier quantities, properly mixes and applies plant protection and / or fertilizer products using various types of application equipment.

Specific Responsibilities include:

Proper application of fertilizer and plant protection products. Process work orders against scheduled dates and time. Maintain positive communication with supervisor and grower. Comply with all applicable laws and regulations at all times. Follow all Wilbur-Ellis Company safety rules. Lift containers weighing up to 80 lbs. Coordinate the use of equipment and make sure that it is returned in good working condition. Perform a pre-trip inspection before leaving the yard. Arrive at the correct job site without undue delay. Properly complete necessary paperwork (application records, shipping papers, driver daily report, and all info on work orders). Properly handle and store all chemical containers. Ensure that equipment is repaired or serviced in order to avoid delays in equipment availability. Participate in blood testing and/or alcohol testing when scheduled. Perform necessary maintenance and repair on equipment. Assist as needed around the plant. Skills and Experience Required Must be familiar with all laws and regulations governing pesticide application. Must possess or obtain a commercial drivers license with endorsements for Haz-Mat and Tank vehicles. Must comprehend basic measurements and calculations for calibration (gallons per acre, and acres per tank). Must have working knowledge of all application equipment. Clean DMV record. Able to work with minimum supervision. Accurately locate application site. Personable mannerisms with customers and fellow employees. Must possess or obtain the Qualified Applicator’s Certification license and attend all required safety training meetings. Must complete bi-annual medical exams. Must participate in a DOT random selection for drug and alcohol testing. Must participate in a 30 day blood testing for Cholinesterase Monitoring. Must be able to work odd hours during peak season (6-7 days, 10-14 hours, depending upon crew assignment may be day or night). Ability to travel to other branches, meeting locations or customer farms. Role Purpose/Accountabilities: *Execute established seed production plans to assure that Syngenta has a consistent, timely, producible supply of high quality seed, assure successful production of critical genetics of region through active technical liaison with breeders, marketing, logistics, growers and third party vendors. *Take personal commitment and accountability to support our HSE goal zero initiative Collaborate with growers and third party vendors to manage all production activities from contracting through harvest and delivery associated with a multimillion dollar vegetable seed business *Understand species and variety characteristics, seed quality standards, PLC advancement priorities, market priorities, and crop delivery requirements to ensure optimization of seed availabilities, and parent seed execution to optimize field performance. *Responsible for grower and third party vendor production guidelines and monitoring, and vendor relations within assigned area and crop responsibility, crop pricing strategies and year end crop and producer assessments. *Adhere to company production instructions Responsible for contracting, crop monitoring, reporting, harvest scheduling, grower and third party vendor settlements for assigned area and crop responsibility to attain targeted volume, quality and cost goals. Responsible for interacting with supply organization and logistics counterparts to insure correct delivery of seeds to plant for processing. Hire, coach, train, and mentor seasonal personnel demands assigned as necessary. *Work with production research or other specialists to test / implement new production concepts. *Remain current with latest production technology and develop specialized skills (i.e. systems, data analysis, equipment maintenance, fertility, irrigation mgt., etc.) to support seed growers. *Assist Production Leaders by accepting special projects or assignments. *Be proactive in providing support to Global Supply Chain production and conditioning efforts. *Adhere to all applicable HSE and other corporate policies, procedures and guidelines *Perform multiple tasks simultaneously through efficient time management and decisive decision making. *Perform other duties as assigned.
